Acknowledgement of Country
Mal Thomas Design would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land on which we live. Mal Thomas Design pays respect to the first peoples of this nation and their Elders past and present, as well as to emerging leaders. I extend that respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
My work shows a fascination with shape, pattern, repetition, materials, and production methods.
The materials I specify and choice of production methods take into account the challenges that sustainability and the protection of the environment present to designers & makers.
Designing objects allows me to work at a different scale. I believe if something can be scaled up and still works it’s a the sign that a design is heading in the right direction.
Design effects production and production in turn effects aesthetics.
My approach allows the creation of engaging exhibition displays that work on several levels, provoke enquiry, emotion and provide meaningful and memorable experiences for visitors.
My interest in people, their stories, objects, composition and architecture provide the basis for my photography practice. Common themes with differing outcomes.
